Travel Retail- The Sixth Continent

Bewitched! I guess so. Have you ever wondered there are over 1 billion globetrotters? They can be called hitchhikers, travel fanatics or whatever you like them to call. They represent 15% of the human population on the earth. But these over a billion tourists across the globe are turning this travel retail into the behemoth of retail sector with an estimated annual spending of around $1 trillion. These travel fanatics have been termed by a leading cosmetics giant as ‘the sixth continent’. It has also been labeled by some as ‘Formula One of Retail’.
Recently, a Deloitte research on the most travelled countries worldwide was topped by France with over 83 million tourists. These tourists ring the cash register in the retail outlets at the airports. Their shopping spree enchants every brand. That’s why the airports have become a substantial hub of the travel retail.
Of course, the airport is not only the sole contributor. Apart from the airport, there are other shopping destinations but no one contributes like it. Retail stores at the airport are the hotbeds for every retailer.
Already, big brands have taken it seriously which has resulted in the personalization of retail stores as per your nativity. The moment a flight lands to Heathrow Airport, the retail outlets over there switch themselves according to the culture and traditions of your native country. Indeed, that’s remarkable and it’s only meant for you.
That’s why, a sixth continent doesn’t exist anywhere, but it’s among our fraternity of globetrotters. And wanderlusts don’t need to wonder why?
